Do not be surprised – this new bridge in Kiev has nothing in common with Cuba except for the name. This reinforced concrete structure is placed across the Harbour in the point where it flows into the Dnieper.

It connects Rybalskyi island with Podol. Initially, it was planned to be a drawbridge, to facilitate the passage of vessels, but later this idea was abandoned. In the end, “colossus” 380 meters long is held by 6 supporting pylons, as Atlants. Since the launch of the Havana bridge in 2007, traffic on it was one-sided in the direction to Obolon. This partially solved the problem of traffic-jams in Kiev.

Since October, 23 the movement through Havana bridge is opened in both directions. The opening ceremony was visited by the Prime Minister Mykola Azarov. In addition, car traffic on the viaduct along Naberezhno-Khreschatytska street is opened.

This flyover due to its design is unique, a single in Kiev, while in Ukraine the second. With its construction the cast all-concrete structures were used, so that allows it to look like a minute trestle, but to have high strength with the thickness of the concrete floor 1.1 meters. It must cross Mezhygirska Street, Constantinovskaya, Frunze, and then pass through the tunnel under the Tatarka.
