The Moscow Bridge
Though it is the Moscow bridge, it is an architectural monument of Kiev. The motion through the bridge is opened in December 3, 1976. The bridge connects the blocks on the right bank with Troyeshchyna, Raduzhnyi and Voskresenka.
This artery, longer than 9 km, is a whole complex of structures, enabling to get through the Dnieper and Desenka to the island of Muromets and Recreation station “Dneprovskie waves.” In 1981, the project developers were awarded with the USSR Council of Ministers Prize. The complex includes the main cable-stayed bridge (816m), with four lanes for vehicular traffic, the bridge over Desenka (732 m) and 55-foot overpass, going through the Heroes of Stalingrad Ave. The Moscow bridge – is the main transport artery of Kiev.
The bridge is unique with its existing hollow concrete pillar ( if necessary staff can move on it). Under cover of the bridge instead of the rail plate there is more flexible metal – know-how of the authors of the project. A long span is supported by the weight of the huge guys. This creates the impression that the bridge is flying in the air. Pylon of the bridge is decorated with emblem of Kiev of the Soviet period with a sheet of chestnut tree, stars, bow and arrow. The bridge has two small playgrounds, from which it is convenient to shoot. But due to traffic both of them go shaking, so do not risk.
On November 5, 1983 the trolley line (route number 29) from the metro station Petrovka to Voskresenka was opened, and since July, 14 1984 a new route number 30 to Troyeshchyna is introduced.
Until 2005, vehicles on the bridge was moving in three lanes in each direction. Trying to seal the strip and add the expense of the reversible lane in August 2005 provoked a significant increase in traffic accidents. Therefore, since December 24, 2007 the reversing strip was replaced by a striker. And by reducing the width of the bands four lanes in each direction were completed.
