The Venetian Bridge
At the spot where the Kiev Venice waters overflowed – waters of Venice Strait – the left flow of the Dnieper vividly bend.
Once upon a time a strait was called the “sleeve Chertoroy. When in 1966 the bridge was built here, it was named after the bay and island with the same titles. The comparison with Venice is no accident. Once heavy flooding of the Dnieper covered wholly the area of the current Hydro Park.
The boats were constantly scurrying here – Kiev gondolas. A settlement Predmostovaya Slobodka destroyed by the Nazis in 1943 was called the Venice of Kiev.
Venetian Bridge (144m) connects Hydro parks’ Dolobetskii island. The construction has one-span, arch, combined concrete. Stairs to the beaches are made of granite. Successful proportion of openwork construction makes it one of the most beautiful bridges in Kiev.
In spite of its name, the bridge is not as romantic as “The Lovers ‘bridge”, and not quite pedestrian, although considered to be. Here are comfortable sidewalks for pedestrians and a roadway. Railing of the bridge is not decorated with philosophical theses. Jumps off a bridge are done on a bet – eggs on the presence of a playground and the beach “Youth.” There opens a spectacular view of the right bank of Kiev from the bridge.
